Among all survival skills, setting up a trap is among the most essential. When you’re just too tired to hunt for small game yourself, a trap is the most reliable device you can have to take care of hunting small game for you.

One good trap you can make is what we call the Paiute deadfall trap, invented by the Paiute tribe. The bait is attached to a horizontal stick, which should be long and thin. When the bait is moved, this causes a weight to fall (usually something heavy like a rock), therefore trapping the animal that went for the bait.
