A grinder is a must have tool if you are serious about crafting knives. Why? What good is a knife if it’s not razor sharp? It’s the grinder’s role to sharpen a knife or any bladed tool whether it’s an old one or one that has just been newly forged.
The idea is to sharpen one side of the blade using the grinder and then followed by the other side. That can be quite a tedious task but there is a way to expedite the sharpening process. That is by using two grinders placed on each side of the blade.
In this video, the author will show you his setup of two grinders and how to use it in sharpening your bladed tools. He uses two ½ horsepower motors and running 1/42 belts. The tension and tracking is adjusted through the use of x-y vices. Want to see it in action? Watch the video.
