How To Bend PVC Pipes Without Heat Guns.
PVC pipes are essential for many home improvement projects. They go into sprinkler systems, greenhouses, even outdoor wiring. If you need to create a bend in a PVC pipe, you’ll need some heat. But without a heat gun, this could be a problem, unless you follow the instructions in this video.
With a little practice anyone can bend PVC pipes without having to resort to using a heat gun. Check out this simple and useful video.

Zack Irvin doesn’t this seem like too much extra work?
This can be done easier by putting a spring in the pipe same size as the inside
Use a string to lower the spring to the bend point.
Bend easily with your arms over your knee and then pull the spring back out with the string.
Done 30 seconds worth of work.
This method does not work on 1.25″ pipe or larger bout 1″-1/2″ is simple.
Will need different size springs for each size pipe.
YOU COULD HEAT IT A BIT WHILE THE PIPE IS FILLED WITH SAND IT WONT PINCH
I can not believe he really posted that hack. What was the cost of 1 ninty. DA
Filling it full of sand does the same thing
I have a heat gun but if I didn’t I would go out and buy one before I went to all this extra work.
I can see the appeal if you have to MacGyver a piece of PVC while out in the woods somewhere. I just cannot imagine a scenario where that might be needed.
Seems to me to be a waste of time and energy. Just get a heat blanket like the electricians use. Still uses energy but it gets the job done in less time and can be used on a variety of pipe sizes…….ROFLMAO!
I’d like to know what this barefooted redneck’s wife said after he spilled sand on her kitchen floor.
Lol forget that nonsense
Fittings work too..
Heat gun. Bang bang. Done.
retarded! reliving his boy scout days. Use a freaking heat gun already..
What if there isn’t any electricity available to run the heat gun?
Exhaust pipe on car truck lawn mower can get pipe got enough to bend pipe done it for years.
Chances are it’s an electrician doing the work and if he can’t find power needs to find a new career
Elbow. Done.
No wonder his electrical journeyman fired him. He spent all day making 1 bend.
THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME!!!
i fell asleep. that is brilliant………wait till they film me using the tail pipe on my pick up.
i have cpl bags sand 4 sale
12 pages of pop up ads-they all do it now. I never look at this crap anymore
what a $#%&!@* post ,no heat gun needed but you need a stove?
I’m thinking customers would kick you out of their house!
I’ve done it several times just holding it above the flame on the stove. Not close enough to burn it but to just get it hot. Only takes about 30 seconds to make it bendable. Way better than all of the nonsense in the video.
How the hell is this easier than blowing a heat gun on it for a minute? And why would I take DIY advice from a guy who works with pipe and heat without even wearing shoes?
450* sand + bare feet = not to bright!!! Takes way to long to bend
Don Hutchings Joyce Hutchings
Yeah, its best to just do it the right way the first time..
I worked for Mt. Bell in Phoenix, we would slide 4 inch PVC onto the tailpipe of our trucks to heat the pipe, then run it around the bend and glue it in place, no frills, no problems.
simple use spring
Save you the trouble…. heat sand in oven. pore sand in tube and bend; repeat.
pain in the $#%&!@* method
This is got to be hands down the dumbest thing I’ve seen in awhile!! heat gun, hair dryer, muffler, anytthing would beat the time consuming nonsense!!
I cant imagine having to bend drain pipe like that for any reason whatsoever.
Sorry. All I got was a bunch of crap aboput how to file my tax forms. For a small cost of course.
Personally, I have used diamond sand in copper tubing, brake lines, fuel lines etc. to create smooth bends . With PVC pipe I have always used play sand and applied the necessary heat via a heat gun or a large pot of boiling water if I am making multiple bends on multiple pipes. The sand retains the pipes diameter without kinking.
To clarify, the only time I ever heated to bend PVC pipe was for sweeping bends in irrigation and electrical conduit only. For house hold plumbing, always use the correct fitting to alter direction of flow.
Scam, redirects to “Virus found” and locks computer
Im thinking wrap in tin foil and heat on BBQ grill….I wonder??
if you are going to HEAT the sand why not just heat the pipe???? dumb
stupid web site ,poor video ,
It’s the same principle of shaping plastic eye gl$#%&!@*es, they just dip the ends in hot sand and bend them into the shape over your ear.
..toss in a handful of chestnuts while your at it.
boiling water works just as well
These pages like these are just advertising bs
Always make sure to remove shoes when working with 450 degree sand, looks like it would be easier and quicker to use a heat gun.
This is the most labor intensive, time consuming, dumbest possible way to bend PVC. There are several ways to do it, and this is not one of them.
Here is a little suggestion for all of you from an electrician. If your in a pinch to bend PVC, slide it into the the exhaust pipe of your truck or car. The heat flowing through the pipe after a few minutes will soften it enough to bend. If you need to bend a U shape then you need to buy a ‘hot box’ or heater blanket.
DO NOT AND I REPEAT WATCH THIS KNUCKLEHEAD
Guy must be getting paid by the hour.
Why not use fittings?
I like this but I would I would wear shoes, the sand could be Hot.
I would certainly use sand as a filler which would prevent the pipe from collapsing while you applied heat to the outside of the pipe. On such small diameter pipe, there isn’t enough m$#%&!@* to maintain any heat which would require repeated applications. Just get the darn heat gun and heat it from the outside. Be cautioned, however. PVC pipe is not very tolerant of heating. You will change the make up of the pipe such that it will no longer have the same properties as the original. Not as strong or flexible.
Brilliant my $#%&!@*. This is stupid. Instead of a heat gun the size of a drill the knucklehead is heating sand in an oven and pouring it into the PVC pipe! And he had to do it twice to get the bend in. What a waste of time.
cant get it wont load
Just A bull $#%&!@* to get u to see there dumb adds. F..K them
Clicked on this video and got a virus warning from Norton Anti-virus.
Take about 2 min to use a heat gun instead of half an hour!!
This is great if you get paid by the hour…..
waaaayyy toooooo slooooowwww, heat gun is 3 mins and done! 15 bucks
Turnin on the 220 stove to heat up sand ..??..go to the store and buy a cheap bend..a whole lot easier..
just hold the pipe over the eye and heat it
nothing to see here no sharing for me its B/S
LOL after all that work, it’d be easier to go out and get a heat gun or a torch with a wide spreader
Hot sand and no shoes. why not just put the pipe in the oven. lol
Heat gun? Sand?? Wouldn’t it be easier just to heat the pipe with the heat gun??
Cut, glue, glue, 90, goodbye!
just watch this,,, save time and the mess, get a heat gun
I’ve used the exhaust pipe on a car many times. Push the pipe into the exhaust pipe so that exhaust flows thru it. Keep a close eye on it and rotate the pipe. Takes only a few minutes.
this process is as slow as the guy talking about it… this the wrong way to do it!… fill the pipe with sand and get a heat gun or a hair dryer ,bend it!
A thin wall bender and boiling water works just fine the tea pot at the dollar store will hold enough for the job.
just fill with sand and use an electric conduit bender. wow that was a complete pain the way that he did that
scam site
By the time I did all of this I could have gone to Lowe’s and bought a heat gun.
most people would not take the time in using this menthod
More complicated to watch the video than going and get my heat gun!
Yeah taking 10 seconds with a heat gun is really hard compared to pans, sand, a stove, cans to bend around…
lets see…hot stove…hot pan..hot sand…..bare feet..makes sense to me!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6JZep-jST4
heat guns aaren’t that expensive. get a heat gun.
Waste of energy to heat up the sand
You know JUST ONCE it would be nice to actually read one of your articles. Every single time I go to one its just spam. I can’t even read 1/4 of the article because of all the spam. And a video? Good luck.
Microwave
Hair blower will do the trick.
USE PEX !
virus alert – got a pop-up alert from my ISP on this link
good teacher stupid sobject
Let all take our gas stove to the job site NOT
did no one else see the heat gun in the background by the oven when he took sand out for the second time…… lmfao!!! wow… its on the internet so it has to be true!!!! HAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Here’s an idea. Use PEX. Who bends pvc?
Fake Scan Webpage 30 blocked by Norton when I tried to watch.
this has avirus…. don’t open
The process still works regardless.
Retard ar work. I bend neon, this is a joke.,
had to bend larger pvc on naval runways,no power, very windy we would make hole in dirt, pour in and ignite pvc glue while heating pipe make a shaped mold in dirt ,place heated pipe while heating next piece till you had as many maching pieces as needed
Use a weed burner torch real fast
I never watched the video but I read the comments and from the sounds of it that was more entertaining than the video was helpful. On yeah, not any pop ups just to read the comments.
Just use a torch that Connect’s to a propane tank and heat it with that I do it everyday building swimming pools and I’ve heated PVC pipe 8 inch in diameter and way faster and easier than this whack jobs method
Most people have the ability to do these projects, they just don’t know the proper steps to take.
Why not just heat the pipe on the stove?
This is dumb, if all else fails a little pvc glue poured in a small hole in the ground and you have fire
I applaud this man’s effort but his delivery just flat out sapped any other kind of praise out of me. How many times did he utter “uh” and umhh. He needs some formal public speaking help.
Did they stop making PVC pipe fittings? Do you really want to put water pressure in an pipe bent in this fashion and risk a burst pipe. Heating and bending may affect the strength of the pipe. Is it really worth saving one Dollar?
I looked up this information for artistic reasons. Shape, form and cost are important factors.
I also didn’t want to do something dangerous or stupid – Safety is always a prime concern.
So thanks everyone for your comments.
