The Monkey’s Fist knot is usually used as a decorative knot but can also be used at a heaving line’s end as a weight when throwing the rope.
To add more weight to the rope for throwing the end over longer distances, some would put in a ball made of marble, lead, or steel inside the core of the knot. Care should be taken as this may inflict injury to the recipient of the other end of the rope. Let’s get knotting!
