For the chemistry buffs out there, this little experiment teaches you how to make sodium metal using sodium hydroxide and magnesium. The chemical reaction triggered by burning the mixture and then pouring mineral oil and water fuses the magnesium with the oxygen and hydrogen, leaving out sodium metal.
It’s recommended that the experiment be done outdoor and without nearby flammable items to prevent potential accidents. This should also be only done by adults and safety precautions should be taken.
