Studs are used to separate the exterior wall and the drywall to provide sound and temperature installation. They are usually made of 2×4 wood planks, but the actual dimensions are 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches. Since the studs are covered by the drywall, it will be difficult to find them.
But there are times when you need to detect the location of a stud. This is especially useful when you need to hang something or you need to repair a cracked drywall. You cannot drive a nail into plain drywall and hang something because the drywall will not provide enough strength.
There are stud finders available in your local DIY or hardware shop that can help you locate a stud behind the drywall. But if you know what to do, you don’t have to spend a dime to find a stud. This DIY tutorial video will show you how it’s done.
